For the expert staff at our centres, it is all about listening to patients and providing the right solutions. This requires the right team of dental experts, which is what we offer at About Smiles. Our practices were established to provide a full range of dental care after noticing that patients were not getting comprehensive and straightforward dental treatments in a single location. Among our staff are family dentists and specialists, which include a paediatric dentist, prosthodontist and an oral maxillofacial surgeon, and several specially trained dental hygienists.

For treatment requiring sedation dentistry or cosmetic dentistry, About Smiles’ patients are in safe and capable hands. Our team of dental experts are supported by our hi-tech facilities which include painless injection system, dedicated patient recovery rooms, an in-house lab and the latest in sedation dentistry technology.

Having thought about getting his smile fixed for many years this patient flew 5 hours each way to see me which was a big commitment.

We discussed various options and he chose 10 upper porcelain veneers and lower whitening.

Our goals were to brighten the smile, cover the dark tooth, close the gaps, provide some fullness and create a nice even smile curve.

Smile by @dr.aodhan This patient had a history of teeth wear and patching the teeth up with white filling materials. In her mouth the materials stained, cracked and broke and she did not want to show her teeth due to this.

We made a diagnosis of the cause of the wear, completed an interim treatment to correct her bite, and then 20 minimal preparation ‘PREPLITE’ veneers. We aimed for a natural look with transparent edges.

Composite vs porcelain 😁
In the right hands, composite veneers can look just as life-like as porcelain. So many dentists do them but few do it really well. Due to their material properties however, composites are more susceptible to staining than porcelain.
Here we used 10 porcelain veneers to replace the bulky and stained old composites. We used a bleach 2 with moderate incisal translucency and natural shapes and surface characterisation to achieve an “OEM+” aesthetic.

The devil is in the detail with these transformations and I’ll be discussing some of them in posts to come. Comment below if there’s anything in particular you’d like to know.
