Success Story – Louise
Louise is a great example of career progression at About Smiles. She joined us with no previous work experience in dentistry but a desire to change career, demonstrated by her already enrolling at TAFE to study Certificate III in Dental Assisting. She continued her study while working with our dentists here, primarily Dr Aodhan Docherty who acted as her mentor, and very quickly progressed to complete her Certificate IV as well! Her hard work, willingness to go ‘above and beyond’ and her ‘nothing-is-too-much trouble’, sunny nature soon ensured she was promoted and now, within just a couple of years of starting her career with us, she has gained experience in all areas of dentistry.
She is currently assisting our specialists with complex procedures well beyond general dentistry such as dental implants, full jaw rehabilitations and bone and sinus grafts. Louise tells us she is loving her new career!
Success Story – Faye
Faye is another great example of how rapidly your career can take off.She started with us as a receptionist early in 2015 and is now Operating Manager for our About Smiles practices in not only Chatswood, but Zetland and Eastgardens too. Faye was new to dentistry after a career in hospitality and worked very hard to learn dental procedures, equipment, products and terminology and now turns her hand to recruitment, rostering, organising maintenance of equipment, training and budgets amongst her many roles! She has worked hard at team building and organised an all-expenses-paid Hunter Valley weekend, complete with helicopter rides and wine tasting for the team to bond – and let off steam!
Social events are great staff motivation for us all and make us feel appreciated. We have had mid-year parties, as well as Christmas parties, and these have always proved a success whether it’s been in-house, at a wine bar or restaurant or even once at a distillery! Birthdays are recognised with birthday cake or occasionally a cheese platter which the whole team appreciate!
